Kinsman’s Kick

Kinsman’s Kick celebrates the nutty, bakery-like charm of Glenfiddich 12. Inspired by Fiona Adams’ love for this Scotch’s distinctive flavors, the Kinsman’s Kick draws on the classic Cameron’s Kick while adding a personal twist. The rich walnut orgeat and Madagascar vanilla-infused Oloroso sherry nod to Glenfiddich’s sherry and bourbon cask maturation, enhances the whisky’s natural nuttiness and caramel sweetness. This cocktail is both a tribute to tradition and a modern delight.

Cocktail Flavor Camps

The inspiration behind this cocktail, as explained by Fiona Adams, home bartender based in Montreal, Quebec, “I’ve been a fan of Glenfiddich 12 since I first tried it and fell in love with its bakery-like aromas and notes of walnut. Its distinctive nutty flavours were particularly evocative when thinking of how best to showcase Glenfiddich 12’s unique character and inspired me to create the Kinsman’s Kick by reminding me of a classic cocktail, the Cameron’s Kick. The walnut orgeat and vanilla-infused oloroso sherry is a nod to the sherry and bourbon casks in which Glenfiddich matures. These casks give Glen 12 its nuttiness and caramel sweetness which I wanted amplify by infusing the sherry with vanilla.

Kinsman's Kick

Recipe by Fiona Adams (Montreal, Quebec)Difficulty: Moderate

Flavor Camps: Sweet, Citrusy, Nutty

Ingredients

  • 1.5 parts Glenfiddich 12 Year

  • 0.5 parts Madagascar vanilla-infused Oloroso Sherry *

  • 0.75 parts Fresh Lemon Juice

  • 0.5 parts Walnut Orgeat

  • Garnish: Candied Walnut ball

Directions

  • Build ingredients in empty shaker tin.
  • Ice, seal and shake for 8-12 seconds.
  • Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with walnut treat and enjoy!

Notes

  • Walnut orgeat:

    Part 1, making walnut milk -
    Ingredients:
    - very hot water, 600g
    -walnuts, 200g
    Method of Preparation:
    -Blend water and nuts together in food processor or high-speed blender
    -Strain using nut milk bag or fine strainer.

    Part 2, making orgeat -
    Ingredients:
    - walnut milk, 500g
    - sugar, 500g
    Method of Preparation:
    -Heat a medium saucepan to medium heat and add walnut milk and sugar to pan.
    - stir continuously until sugar has completely dissolved.
    -Remove from heat and let cool.
    -Pour into sealable container using funnel and place in fridge.
  • * Madagascar vanilla-infused oloroso sherry:

    Ingredients:
    - 1 Madagascar vanilla pod/bean (can be purchased online or in specialty grocery stores)
    - 1 750mL bottle of Oloroso sherry
    Method of Preparation:
    - slice vanilla pod lengthwise with a sharp knife
    - place in sherry bottle
    - set aside to infuse for at least one week, shaking bottle occasionally
    - pour contents of the bottle into a clean container
    - use funnel and mesh/fine strainer to filter infusion back into sherry bottle
    -label and date
    -enjoy!
