Meukow Red VSOP
November 25, 2025
TL;DR: Meukow VSOP is sleek, expressive, and unmistakably feline in character. Rich fruit, polished oak, and supple spice glide together with the elegance that inspired its iconic panther emblem. A refined Cognac that delivers both charm and depth, perfect for sipping or elevating a classic cocktail.
Meukow VSOP is crafted with the same dedication that has defined the house since the nineteenth century, when its Cognacs were first created for European royalty. Produced through double distillation and aged in French oak for a minimum of two years, the spirit is blended from eaux de vie drawn from all six Cognac crus. Under the guidance of Cellar Master Anne Sarteaux, one of the few women in this role, Meukow VSOP reflects a balanced marriage of Grande and Petite Champagne complexity with the fruit driven elegance of Fins Bois, Bons Bois, Borderies, and Bois Ordinaires. The result is a supple, harmonious Cognac rooted in tradition and craftsmanship.

Flavor Camp Taste Profile
Overall Review
- Overall Assessment: 83/100
- Distinctiveness: 6.5/10
- Bottle Appeal: 8.5/10
- Value for Price: 7.5/10
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep Amber
- Aroma: Bright and spritely with prominant florals (rose, elderflower, honeysuckle). A green, almost menthol, fennel, or green pepper note contrasts pears, citrus, red apples, and ginger. A touch of caramel is present.
- Taste & Mouthfeel: On the palate, more white pepper, citrus, pears, ginger, florals, vanilla and hazelnuts are present. This expression is moderately mouth drying.
- Finish: Ginger and vanilla dance on the palate.
- Distinctiveness: Meukow VSOP stands out through its supple texture, panther inspired elegance, and well integrated blend of crus. While its profile remains comfortably within classic Cognac territory, the subtle resinous depth, spicy richness, and dark chocolate tones offer a slightly more brooding character than many VSOP peers.
- Overall Drinkability & Balance: A polished and flavourful VSOP that offers balance, warmth, and complexity at an accessible price. Distinct enough to be interesting, smooth enough to appeal broadly, and well composed from first sip to finish. Excellent neat or in elevated brandy cocktails.
