Whether enjoyed neat or with a splash of water, Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve serves as an ideal gateway for those just venturing into the world of single malts. Its approachable character thanks to the maturation in ex-bourbon and virgin oak offers a rare combination of delicacy and depth.
TL;DR Glenfiddich 14 is a smooth, easy-drinking whisky with a nice mix of vanilla sweetness and a touch of spice that’s perfect for Scotch newbies.

Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Amber - The bottles are sleek, modern look while staying true to their heritage. The bottles feature a more refined, angular shape with a slimmer neck and broad shoulders, giving them a bold, premium appearance. The iconic Glenfiddich stag emblem is prominently embossed on the glass, while the labels sport updated typography and a clean design. The overall presentation is both contemporary and classy, making the bottles stand out on any shelf.
- Aroma: Creamy vanilla, creme brulee and shortbread dominate the aroma. Hints of black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, demerara and perhaps even a touch of fresh linens swirl in the glass.
- Taste & Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is moderate. Once again we're getting vanilla shortbread, marmalade on toast, cinnamon and brown sugar are pleasing to the palate. This is a breakfast whisky.
- Finish: Creamy vanilla and spice dance on the palate.
- Distinctiveness: That vanilla from the ex-bourbon and virgin oak is noticeable, however, it's not as distinctive as other flavor notes in other whiskies.
- Overall Drinkability & Balance: Glenfiddich 14 is a smooth, easy-drinking whisky with a nice mix of vanilla sweetness and a touch of spice that’s perfect for Scotch newbies (and those who want a perfect complement to a sweet or savory weekend brunch).

Comments / Notes:
- Glenfiddich, founded in 1887 by William Grant, is one of the few distilleries still owned and operated by the founding family, making it a rare independent player in the Scotch whisky industry.
- The name “Glenfiddich” comes from Scottish Gaelic and means “Valley of the Deer.” “Glen” refers to a valley, and “Fiddich” is derived from the River Fiddich, which flows near the distillery in Speyside, Scotland. This connection to nature is reflected in the brand’s iconic stag logo, symbolizing the deer that roam the surrounding area.
- Glenfiddich was the first Scotch whisky brand to market single malts internationally, helping to popularize single malt whisky worldwide in the 1960s.
