Bearface Wilderness Series 02: Mitlenatch Island Release

Venturing deep into the Canadian Pacific Northwest wilderness, this whisky explores Mitlenatch Island. This whisky was blended with distilled water harvested from the maple-smoked salt production, capturing the essence of evaporated seawater over maple wood fires.

TLDR; This whisky is bold and viscous, boasting profound minerality, elemental smokiness, and a delightful salty-sweet finish.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep Gold
Aroma: The nose is reminiscent of toasting marshmallow over beach bonfire with additional notes of butterscotch, smoked meats, and white pepper.
Palate: The palate is buttery, spicy, and has a bright minerality to it. Saline creates a mouth watering experience while sweet smoke tantalizes the palate.
Finish: Salty yet sweet with a smoky conclusion
Distinctiveness: Never before have we heard of smoke being imparted into a whisky via maple smoked sea salt proofing. This combined with the high corn composition and elemental cask aging leads to a distinctive whisky that could certainly be picked out in a blind tasting.
Overall Drinkability & Balance: Does this whisky make us think? Yes. Does it evolve and change with each sip? Yes. Do we want it on our home bar? Absolutely. But is it something crushable - it's more of a slow sipper.

Comments / Conclusions:

This expressions definitely challenges the palate in new ways. It’s very flavorsome and intriguing on the palate. While it’s likely not something you’d want to crush a bottle of in a sitting, it is a bottle you’d want to have in your collection to spark conversation.
